Joseph J. Okon Associates

An Independent Consulting Firm Assisting Not-for-Profit Institutions, Organizations, and Foundations in the Conceptualization and Funding of New Programs and Initiatives.

Joseph J. Okon Associates (JJOA) has established an unmatched record helping not-for-profit organizations in the conceptualization of new programs and special projects, and in review and/or preparation of grant applications for training, service, and research initiatives.

After completing his doctorate and residency training in social medicine in 1976, Joseph J. Okon, MD served in the U.S. Public Health Service administering educational research and development projects.  Subsequently he was responsible for implementing parts of new legislation for support of primary care training to meet the needs of underserved populations.  He developed special expertise in primary care medical education and establishment and funding of new programs and initiatives.

Dr. Okon recognized soon after completing his clinical training that foundations and other organizations seeking to better our society needed professionals equipped to evaluate proposed new initiatives and to monitor new projects, including dimensions of public benefit, management, financial and legal concerns.  The RWJ Clinical Scholars Program at George Washington University offered Dr. Okon a fellowship to design and undertake formal training to be equipped for this unique role.  Dr. Okon chose instead to continue to hone these and related skills through real-world effort in the Federal Government and then for more than twenty five years as a consultant.

Since the establishment of Joseph J. Okon Associates, JJOA has gravitated to serve not for profit organizations (mostly teaching hospitals and universities involved with primary care education and community based services) in the conceptualization and planning of new programs and initiatives.  In addition, given that funding is often the limiting factor in bringing worthy ideas to fruition, JJOA developed special expertise in advising on compilation of grant applications (and, in many instances, provided actual grantwriting services on a subcontract basis.)

Overall, the vast majority of client organizations assisted by our firm in project planning and development of grant applications have received substantial grants. Many have received multiple awards.

Client foundations working with JJOA have benefited from our experience consulting within many dozens of diverse organizations that directly provide services and training as well as conduct research.
